Hasta Siempre Valpariso!

The time has come to say a fond farewell to Valparaiso, our Costa Paraiso apartment, and some of the people that have taken care of us over the last three months. This is looking north down Avenida San Guillermo toward the Pacific. Our Costa Paraiso is on the left.

These are the fellows that look after the joint, and despite having absolutely no English, helped to make our stay truly enjoyable.

Norberto seemed to be the head dude and was always very helpful.

Roberto was perhaps the most friendly of the group. He was always concerned with how we were doing.

Freddy was always laughing and joking about something. Sometimes WITH us, & sometimes AT us. . . but always in a good natured way.

Carlos: I was too late to get a photo of Carlos as he had left on vacation. When we first moved in, it was Carlos who helped us sort out just how things worked in the apartment.

And so, we say hasta siempre to Valparaiso and to the many friends that have made the last five months so memorable. Literally translated, "hasta siempre" means "Until always". The actual meaning is something like, "Good-bye, you will always be in our hearts".

But leaving Valparaiso doesn't mean that we are on our way home quite yet! This will be our home for the next little while. We shot this when the Star Princess was in port last month.

We will board Monday (February 2) and sail south along the coast of Chile, through the Strait of Magellan, north east to the Falkland Islands, and then north to Buenos Aires, Argentina, arriving on February 14th. We have five ports of call along the way where we will hang out with the sheep in Patagonia, view the volcanoes, play with the penguins, try to Tango . . . .

We are hoping to keep up with the blog while on board but aren't sure of just how that will work out.

In the meantime, we will be spending today (Sunday) trying to squeeze five months of living, back into our suitcases. We also have some Canadian & Saskatchewan flag pins that we will hand out to the vendors at the local market (thanks Willa). That should be fun . . . people seem to genuinely appreciate our small tokens of remembrance.

Anchors away!

Hasta luego,
Amor,
Norm and Charlene
